We were staying at the Travelodge in Sidcup because it is Lyn’s birthday and where better to stay than Sidcup and what better way to show one’s love for someone than two nights at a Travelodge.
The birthday spoiling didn’t stop there either, when we woke up in the morning I selflessly offered to run down three flights of stairs to pick up Lyn’s breakfast pastry of choice and a coffee from the only coffee shop that is open at that time. I know, just how lucky can one woman be?
Costa had a queue that reached it’s front doors and behind the till was a hassled looking employee so I waited patiently until I was asked what I would like to order.
“ One black Americano, takeaway, One double shot Macchiato takeaway and a Pain Au Chocolate also takeaway please.”
My order is repeated back to me although using the word ‘repeated’ seems somewhat redundant.
“One Americano with hot milk for here?”
“Black please and takeaway”
“Takeaway. Got it, and a Macchiato, that’s for here?”
“It’s a double please and no, I will have that takeaway as well please.”
“Takeaway. OK, sure and one chocolate croissant?”
“Pain Au Chocolate please.”
“We don’t do those..”
I pointed to the tray of Pan Au Chocolates which by a strange coincidence are, in fact, labelled Pain Au Chocolate.
Once again the order is recited back to me and the excitment in her tone is only beaten by the huge dollop of sarcasm.
“ One black Americano, takeaway, One double shot macchiato also takeaway! Would sir like anything else?”
“Yes, a Pain Au Chocolate!”
Sheepishly she replies with a quiet ‘of course’ followed by a confidently stated.
“And you’d like that takeaway!”
“No, I will have that here…”
Oh and shut up, Lyn got a years membership to the Greenwich Museums and two tickets to see the musical Blood Brothers, the only downside was she had to take me. Who made that rule? Surely if two tickets to anything is the gift then the reciever should get to choose who is allocated ticket numbe two!
But that is a blog for another day.

Lovely stuff.
How could this week’s blog be anything but a winner when it relies on the Adams cornerstones of
Coffee,
Self-deprecation,
Passive-aggressive retail transactions?
always a good read
Great blog
